    • EUR  ZEW Economic Sentiment (Jan)  (Forecast 29.2, Previous 26.8)
    • USD  NY Empire State Manufacturing Index (Jan)  (Forecast 25.7, Previous 31.9)

The Aussie Dollar – Fundamentals
Major currencies were mixed against the US dollar in European and North American trade.  But the Aussie dollar rose from lows near US71.99 cents to highs near US72.28 cents and was near US72.10 cents in afternoon North American trade.  The Euro fell from highs near US$1.1433 to lows near US$1.1391 and was near US$1.1405 in afternoon North American trade.
US financial markets were closed on Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Whilst there was no US economic data scheduled for release, yesterday did see the PBOC cut their lending rates on one year loans by 0.10% in what appears could be part of an ongoing easing policy to support the economy.
Markets will most likely be lackluster during Asian trading, with no real major data to come out and no real lead from overnight markets.
